You Have Friends Here!

“People don’t care whether your church is friendly.  They care whether they can find friends there.”

I heard that at the BASICS conference, and it really resonated with me.  Our tagline is “You’ve got FRIENDS here!”  But friends don’t just meet for an hour a week and then ignore each other all week long.  They are in each other’s lives, loving one another, laughing and crying with one another, and just generally sharing life.

A couple of verses come to mind.  “A friend loves at all times.” (Proverbs 17:17) “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and FELLOWSHIP, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” (Acts 2:42)

One of the great things about summer at FBC is the opportunity to develop this aspect of our church. Most of the activities and events are oriented around fellowship and friendship.  Things like Campfire Fellowships, and Pastor’s Masters golf outings, and COED Softball, are all opportunities to make and be FRIENDS with others at FBC.  I encourage you to take advantage of these things, and to open your homes and hearts to them. It doesn’t take a lot - just attend when invited to a brother or sister’s home, or invite them to yours!  Have a cup of coffee.  Sit around a campfire.  Be together with your brothers and sisters in Christ.  These things don’t replace the importance of Sunday worship, but rather enhance it.

Because remember - “People don’t care whether your church is friendly.  They care whether they can find friends there.”
