From the new teachers of the Young Adults SS Class

Hello,

It’s that time of year again for Friendship Bible Church Sunday School to begin. You may already know that FBC is offering a new selection of classes to chose from. We would like to invite you to join us for our class. We will be meeting in the fellowship hall beginning September 5th at 9:30 a.m.

Our goal is to promote a closer personal walk with the Lord. To achieve this we would like to provide an in depth study into God’s word with topics that are chosen by the class. This will ensure more discussion, feedback, and interaction by all. So please bring any and all biblical based topics, questions, ideas, and/or concerns that may be of interest to you. During the first class, we will discuss these items and the class can choose the first topic together.

We hope to see you September 5th!

God Bless,

Jack and Jessica

From the new teachers of the Adult SS Class

Hi Folks!

September is just around the corner, and it is time again to start thinking about our adult Bible studies at Friendship Bible Church. On September 5th we will be starting a brand-new adult class and would like you to be a part of it. There will be a time of Bible study, fellowship, and prayer for each other. In John 15:5 Jesus said "I am the vine, you are the branches". Just as the branches (us) are connected to the vine (Jesus) this is an opportunity for you to get connected to others at FBC.

Come join us from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Make some new friends and have a fun time around God's word.

In Christ's Love,

Jim and Cindy

Of such is the kingdom of God.

Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. (Luke 18:16 KJV)

We were privileged to send several kids to Camp Carl this year.  Here is a video showing some of that.

(If you receive this in email, and the video doesn't show, please visit the church BLOG to see it.)

Round Three!

Can anybody knock Brother Don off the leaderboard? He has been dead consistent through the first two rounds. Last week Brother Bud (or was it Brother Charlie?)  gave it a try, but only managed a tie. What will happen this week in the Pastor's Masters?

2:00 at Sunny Hill!

Remember - anybody may join at any time. Just show up and tee off.

CONFIRMED!!

I just got off the phone with our excellent cook, and the Men's Prayer Breakfast is a GO for this weekend.

Guys, we will meet in Fellowship Hall for the breakfast to end all breakfasts at 8:00 AM Saturday morning. There is always plenty of food, so invite somebody to join you!

I will be bringing the devotional this month, and so let me whet your appetite just a bit about that by asking a question - what do King Arthur, an Australian preacher, and the New Testament all have in common? Find out Saturday morning!

Have you heard what's happening on the first Sunday in September?

We are really getting excited about what God is doing in our Sunday School hour this fall. Here are some of the changes:

  • A new class will be available for kids 12 and up, and will meet upstairs in the center room.  This will be the first time in years that the upstairs portion of the building is actively used.
  • A new class for young adults will meet in the Fellowship Hall.
  • The auditorium class will have new teachers, and once the last remaining Sunday School class off Fellowship Hall is finished, they will take up residence therein.
  • The weekly discipleship class will be moved from Tuesday evenings to Sunday mornings and will be taught by the Pastor, initially meeting in the small prayer room just off the foyer.

Want to know more? Ask the teachers, who are working hard to prepare.

And, God be praised, we already have needs for additional classes!

Pray with us about teachers for a youth/teen class, and for the preschool class.

Jesus said, "I will build My church!"  What a blast to watch Him do it!

Farmers Market Cancelled

Since it's fair week, and we want our people to be free to enjoy that annual activity, and since we only have one person signed up this week, I think we'll cancel the Farmers Market for Saturday, August 28th, and pick it up fresh again on the first Saturday in September.  See you then!

Countdown to Chandelier-time!

The chandelier is almost ready to go back up! Some have never seen it. Here are a few pics to say "thank you" to those few who have been working so hard to get it restored and reinstalled.

Bet you had no idea there were that many little parts to that thing, did you?

(BTW) If you are receiving this via email and the slideshow below is missing, you can view it here.

Lots of new faces these days at FBC!

(The following appeared in the church bulletin this last Lord's Day, and is reprinted here:

If you are one if the new faces, make sure and check out the many and varied opportunities available to you here. If we have your email address (see our church secretary if you would like to give that information), or if you follow us on Twitter (www.twitter.com/friendshipbible), you will get up to date info about happenings. You can always check out the church website and BLOG, too. And the bulletin is always chock full of announcements and opportunities for believers to use their gifts for the Lord.

Opportunities like the Secret Sisters for the ladies, and the Mens Prayer breakfasts for the guys... golf and softball, campfire fellowships, game nights, bowling, and other fun activities meant to bring us together as a family.

And opportunities to serve like first Saturdays at the Haven of Rest rescue mission in Akron, or outreach at the Farmers Market on Saturdays during the summer, or door to door evangelism with the pastor, or benevolence ministries for our shutins or those going through hardships.

The various Sunday School classes, Ladies Bible Study, Wednesday Evening Prayer Meeting, and of course Sunday Morning worship services provide a variety of opportunities to worship, pray, and learn from the Word. Got musical gifts? The Christmas cantata is just around the corner, and we are always looking for musicians. Our music director would love to hear of your interest! Like kids? We have a Jr. church coordinator who would love to help you if you are interested in that. Like computers or technology? There are always opportunities there. And in a small but growing church like FBC, new opportunities are being developed everyday.

So, check things out and then plug in somewhere. As all God's people use their spiritual gifts for his glory in His local church, amazing things will happen!

"A spiritual gift is given to each of us as a means of helping the entire church." (1 Corinthians 12:7 NLT)

Buzzards? Demons?

I read another pastor's tongue-in-cheek illustration once concerning the fact that Satan, unlike our heavenly Father, cannot be in all places at once.  Satan is not omnipresent.  Only God is.  Satan, however, has hordes of demons to assist him.  This pastor pointed out that since Satan can't be in every church at the same time, he posts a demon or two on the steeple of each church with the instructions, "Call me if they wake up."

Hmmmm....

One seems to be headed somewhere, perhaps with a message?  Something like, "This church is awake!  New members joining again this Sunday!  VBS starting up Monday... people are excited... loads of fun during the weekend with a wonderful campfire fellowship and the first round of the Pastor's Masters golf tournament.  Most of all, another Sunday worship service where Jesus was lifted up.  Parking lot and pews were both nearly full!"

His master is no doubt upset.

We pray that our Master is pleased.

And if you have not been part of the fun that is Friendship Bible Church recently, we invite you to join us - any evening this week for VBS, or next Lord's Day at 10:30 AM for worship.
