A Thankful President

Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor -- and whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me "to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness."

Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be -- That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks -- for his kind care and protection of the People of this Country previous to their becoming a Nation -- for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his Providence which we experienced in the tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed -- for the peaceable and rational manner, in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted -- for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed; and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.

And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions -- to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually -- to render our national government a blessing to all the people, by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed -- to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness onto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord -- To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us -- and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.

Given under my hand at the City of New York
the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

In Case Of Weather

Just a quick reminder that if we ever need to cancel a service or activity due to weather, we will use the following notification methods:

1. The outgoing message on the church phone will contain the announcement. If you ever wonder about whether something is cancelled due to weather, call the church office and listen to that announcement. (330) 325-7836.

2. A post to the church blog, the church email list, the church Facebook page and the church Twitter account. If you follow any of those, you should receive notification.

3. WCRF radio.

Bunch of new audio

If you've wondered what happened to our audio sermon archive, rest assured it is back. Some changes occurred at the service where we store those files, and that broke things for a while. All is working now, though.

You can get the audio files via iTunes. Just search for the Friendship Bible Church under podcasts.

If you have the FBC web app on your smartphone, then you have access to the audio files under "From the Pulpit".

If you want to access the sermon archive from the church website, click on "What We Do" and scroll down to select "Preaching". Then you'll find a link for listening to the sermons.

Oh, and one more thing

Remember the Operation Christmas Child packing party, tomorrow, Saturday at 1 o'clock in Fellowship Hall.

Pizza and pop provided.

Come help us meet our goal of 200 shoeboxes!

Operation Christmas Child

Don't forget! This Sunday is the final day to bring in Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes before we take them to the drop off location. Please have your shoeboxes filled, labeled, wrapped with a rubber band, and your $7 shipping fee included (instructions for this are on the label brochure). After Sunday, any boxes will have to be dropped off individually. The children who receive these simple gifts will appreciate your kindness and generosity. Most importantly, they will have an opportunity to hear/read the gospel message of Christ in their own language! What a blessing to be part of! Thank you for supporting this important ministry and Early Merry Christmas!

Don't Be Late!

Remember that Daylight Savings Time ends at 2:00 AM this coming Lord's Day.  Set that clock back an hour before you crash for the evening.  And crash early,  "lest Satan should take advantage of us; for we are not ignorant of his devices." (2 Corinthians 2:11)

Wear a hat and meet us at the Haven of Rest in Akron at 10:00 AM Saturday morning.

For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. (Matthew 25:35 NIV)
